This past Friday, Live! Casino in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, posted a billboard welcoming Bruce Springsteen to the city ahead of his two shows at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, along with his E Street Band. The only problem with the billboard was that they spelled his name “Bruce Springstein” instead of “Bruce Springsteen.”
The billboard initially read, “Welcome to Philadelphia, Bruce Springstein.”
In the wake of this error, the casino has apologized for the gaffe.
After Live! Casino was made aware of the error; it updated the billboard with a playful apology. The casino received backlash from Springsteen’s fan base, known as the “Bruce Tramps.”
The updated billboard now read, Never gamble on spell check!” the billboard was edited to read. “Sorry, boss! Welcome to Philly, Bruce Springsteen!”
The billboard also underlined the updated “steen” spelling.
However, I can tell you from my point of view that all of my editing tools don’t autocorrect or spell check to “Springstein;” it’s always “Springsteen,” so that’s an unusual explanation.
Why did Live! Casino post a billboard anyway?
Well, even through the casino wasn’t the one putting on his shows, they have 200 guestrooms and suites with a casino for potential Springsteen fans to enjoy. The casino also features 2,000 slots, 140 live dealer games, nearly three dozen poker tables, a FanDuel Sportsbook, and nearly double-digit restaurants to choose from.
While this is a bit of an egg-on-its-face moment for Live! Casino, they’re still in the news, which will get casino-goers talking. The 2023-24 fiscal year for Live! Casino in Philadelphia ended in June 2024, and it generated more than $456.5 million in revenue from slots and another near-$108 million from table games.
As for the sportsbook, that brought in $6.3 million in revenue.
Also, as mentioned above, should someone check out Live! Casino Philadelphia and check out all of the amenities, who knows, some may want to go to the casino that spell Springsteen’s name wrong that one time.
Live! Casino Philadelphia is operated by Cordish Companies, which is based in Baltimore and just across the Delaware River from New Jersey.
Cordish spent $700 million bringing Live! to Philadelphia. It was built during the COVID-19 pandemic and opened in 2021.
Cordish also runs the Xfinity Live! entertainment section near Citizens Bank Park. That center houses five restaurants, a concert stage, and is referred to as the “fourth stadium” in the city.
