Key Takeaways

  • Riot Game has launched a Game Changers program for women and other minority groups
  • Riot Games has such a program for VALORANT, which has had plenty of success
  • Right now, we know there will be two seasons, from April to May and July to September

Riot Games is set to launch a League of Legends Game Changers program for the EMEA region. Game Changers aims to provide women and other minority groups with an official esports platform and a developmental path to the League of Legends esports ecosystem.

Background on the Program

It’s been revealed that this League of Legends Game Changers program has been in the works since 2023. This comes after Riot Games implemented a Game Changers program for VALORANT, which has a growing interest and is fielding women’s rosters.

The 2024 Game Changers Championship for VALORANT saw ten teams compete for $500,000.

Now, looking ahead to 2025, Shopify Rebellion, which is now owned by Ludwig (Ludwig Ahgren) and MoistCr1TiKal (Charles Christopher White Jr.), became the first Game Changers team to qualify for VCT Challengers, a second-tier event.

We’ve also learned that at least three existing LEC teams have expressed interest in competing in this first Game Changes circuit for the EMEA region.

While the names of the teams weren’t revealed, Riot Games is planning to invite at least eight teams.

Past Game Changes for League of Legends

This isn’t the first time Riot Games has launched a Game Changers project for League of Legends in 2021. Back then, they had an LCS Game Changers program to mentor women for the North American League of Legends scene.

When Will League of Legends Game Changers EMEA Begin?

The first season of the League of Legends Game Changers EMEA will start in April and run until May.

From there, a second season is planned to start in July and go through September.

This tournament will consist of a group stage and playoffs to determine the winner.

As of now, there are no details on prize money or locations.
