More Than a Uniform Alteration
The LVCVA, a public entity funded by tax dollars, has pledged $8.5 million to the A’s for their next three seasons in Sacramento. The team will receive $2.5 million in 2025, and $250,000 increments will be added over the next two seasons: $2.75 million in 2026 and $3 million in 2028.
A’s owner, John Fisher, expressed enthusiasm over the deal, stating, “For the Athletics, this is more than just a jersey patch—it’s the beginning of the transition to our new home. This is a chance to wear our hearts on our sleeves for the next three years before bringing the vibrant spirit of our new home front and center across our new uniform.”
A Unique Situation
The A’s go down in history as the only MLB team not to adopt their current location into their name, which they announced would not happen Last April. The team will simply be referred to as the “Athletics” or A’s.
LVCVA CEO and president Steve Hill explained that the A’s donning the Vegas logo would shed a positive spotlight on the city and create a buzz ahead of the A’s debut 2028 season: “Whether the team is on the field in Sacramento, Boston, or anywhere in between, this patch serves as a constant reminder that Major League Baseball is coming to Las Vegas and reinforces Las Vegas as a world-class sports destination.”
Sacramento Representation
While the Athletics will not add their location to the team name, they will wear a “Sacramento” logo on one sleeve while the “Las Vegas” patch sits on that of their dominant arm. The new uniform will debut on March 27th as the A’s face the Seattle Mariners.
