Key Takeaways

  • Bally’s plans to build hotel and casino towers around Oakland A’s stadium
  • The company plans to launch Phase 1 alongside the ballpark
  • Stadium construction is expected to begin by April 2025

Recent weeks have been eventful for the Oakland A’s. The legendary baseball team played its final game at the Oakland Coliseum for the last time in 56 years. And in Las Vegas, the Tropicana Hotel was brought down with a lot of celebration to make way for the team’s new stadium.

After months of secrecy and speculation, Bally’s Corporation finally submitted a preliminary master plan to the Clark County Department of Comprehensive Planning detailing plans for a hotel and casino surrounding the new Oakland A’s stadium.

Grand Plans

Bally’s master plan, drafted by Marnell Architecture, details the construction of the ballpark and comprehensive entertainment complex, which will include casino and hotel towers. The company intends to develop the site in three phases, with the first phase focusing on the casino and hotel, scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2028 alongside the A’s stadium.

Bally’s Chairman, Soo Kim, had a conversation with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, where he revealed that the corporation intends to open Phase 1 of the property concurrently with the Oakland A’s stadium. “We’re working pretty hard to come up with a plan that allows us to at least build Phase 1 and open at the same time as the ballpark,” Kim noted.

Phase 1 Specifics

Phase 1 of the Bally’s property will feature a 90,000 sq ft casino with 1,500 slot machines, 75 table games, and a poker room. The floor will also include a sportsbook section covering 12,00 sq ft. While the resort’s hotel tower will begin in Phase 1, all 3,000 rooms will only be included upon completion of Phase 3.

Oakland A’s plans to break ground on its 33,000-seat stadium by April 2025 and finalize in 2028. Bally’s aims to begin construction a few months later and meet the same completion goal.

A few changes are expected to the property design, as Kim emphasized that the initial renderings in the preliminary master plans were to confirm that everything could fit within the site. There were concerns that the structures’ designs could hinder views of the Vegas Strip from within the stadium, but both parties are keen to preserve this visual appeal.

Multiple Large-Scale Projects

Bally’s Corporation has its hands full with another significant project in Chicago that is running alongside the Las Vegas development. While both projects are highly demanding, Kim explained that the company will confidently handle both without expected delays. “The Chicago project is already financed and mostly planned out,” he expressed, detailing that the company is steadily moving forward.
