Light & Wonder Makes the Announcement
Upon the lawsuit being filed, a federal court granted Aristocrat’s injunction to have Light & Wonder stop all commercial use of Dragon Train during this process.
With an appeal being an option, it appears Light & Wonder has opted not to go that route with Wilson announcing the change to the games on YouTube.
“First, we are ensuring that our customers are taken care of as we comply with the judge’s order,” Wilson said in an unlisted YouTube video on the Light & Wonder channel.
Right now, the litigation is still technically pending.
In the video, Wilson said there were about 2,200 Dragon Train slot games across North America and stated the games were an “immediate priority.”
Wilson mentioned “Dragon Train 2.0,” so it’s unclear if that means revising the current games or releasing new Dragon Train titles.
What’s Next For Dragon Train?
It’s unclear how Light & Wonder plans to roll out a new version of Dragon Train across the casinos where it has physical games, but they appear to be ready to do so.
“Our intention is to build out Dragon Train 2.0 in compliance with the order and we are working actively on this right now,” Wilson said.
Even with Light & Wonder committed to this change, the litigation is still ongoing. There’s been no official ruling on it yet.
From here, Aristocrat could petition to withdraw the suit or wait to see if they’re OK with the changes made to Dragon Train, which is being referred to as Dragon Train 2.0.
Does this Impact the Lawsuit With Evolution?
No, there’s no impact on the lawsuit with Evolution.
We could also see settlements across the suits.
However, should this go to trial, there could be sweeping changes to how games are developed, impacting the industry.
From here, we’ll see how Light & Wonder alters Dragon Train and how Aristocrat and Evolution respond.
