Key Takeaways

  • The man accused and found not guilty was 20-year-old Antonio Latham
  • The murder happened at Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant
  • His charges were reduced from murder to first-degree manslaughter before being found not guilty

The 20-year-old man, Antonio Latham, who was put on trial for a 2024 slaying at Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, Oklahoma, has been found not guilty by a jury this week.

Now, Latham, of Gunter, Texas, has been set free.

In other casino murder news, a female duo was recently sentenced for killing a man at Caesars Palace Las Vegas.

Screwdriver Stabbing

Latham was charged with murder after the victim, Phillip Wingfield, 51, was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver in the parking garage of the casino.

Latham was seen on video stabbing the man, police said.

Surveillance footage shows Latham arriving on the scene in a white pickup truck. The video also shows the two men approaching the casino together, Latham pushing Wingfield and Wingfield pushing back.

They were described as “acquaintances.”

He was arrested on June 9, 2024, and his bond was initially set at $1 million.

Charges Changed

Latham’s charges were reduced from murder to first-degree manslaughter. Not only was this a lesser charge, but it’s also considered easier to prove.

Jurors began hearing evidence days ago, along with opening and closing arguments.

They found Latham not guilty.

If found guilty, he would’ve been in prison for years.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations investigated the death of Wingfield after officers from the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police initially responded to the crime scene.

Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant is about 46 miles north of Gunter, Texas. It has about 7,400 slots, 100 table games, and a poker room.

Additionally, there are 20 restaurants and a 21-story hotel with 1,000 rooms.

The Choctaw Nation operates it.
