Key Takeaways

  • The fire was in the duct between Chandler Steakhouse and the roof
  • Chandler Steakhouse is closed until Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5 pm ET
  • It’s unclear what started the fire

On Saturday, MGM Springfield, located in Massachusetts, was evacuated after a fire broke out at a restaurant on the property.

This was a ductwork fire, causing smoke to rise to the floors above it.

The Springfield Fire Department was alerted at about 5:39 pm ET, and sprinklers were activated.

Guests and employees were evacuated and remained outside for multiple hours.

Smoke had spread to several floors, and the fire was in the docs between the kitchen at Chandler Steakhouse and the roof.

In other  Massachusetts news, the state sent a cease and desist letter to Bovada earlier this month.

Firefighters Went On the Roof

Firefighters put only the flames on the roof, including sparks and flames found in the ducts.

Part of the roof was on fire but was brought under control after multiple hours of clearing smoke in the building.

Casino guests and workers were able to return to most parts of the casino.

Chandler Steakhouse Closure

Due to the fire, Chandler Steakhouse is closed until 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The restaurant is also routinely closed on Monday and Tuesday.

The fire resulted in no injuries to anyone. There was also no estimate for repair costs.

It’s also unclear if all smoke was cleared on Saturday.

However, on Sunday, the Springfield Fire Department sent out their Arson and Bomb Squad to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The casino saw six fire engines, three trucks, three chiefs, and a single rescue vehicle respond to the fire.

MGM Springfield For Sale?

Bloomberg News reported earlier this year that MGM Resorts may have considered selling MGM Springfield, which has been up and running for six years. To date, MGM has invested about $1 billion in the casino.

There are 1,500 slot machines, poker, table games, restaurants, and more on site.
