Brian Steel Comments
Steel released a comment on X detailing what happened, saying:
“Early this morning, two CPD officers working special duty at Hollywood Casino sustained minor injuries while taking a drunk and disorderly individual into custody. Both officers were treated and released.
This is yet another reminder of the challenges our officers face every day, even in off-duty roles. The FOP stands firmly behind our dedicated officers and the critical work they do to keep our community safe.
Stay safe out there—we’ve got your back!”
More About the Police Officer’s Roles
Steel mentioned the officers were “working special duty.”
According to the City of Columbus website, this refers to an off-duty police officer who provides security, traffic control, or escorts.
No information regarding the suspect has been released.
On local news affiliate WBNS 10TV, they relayed the incident to their viewers, saying, “This morning, two Columbus police officers are recovering after being hurt by a person under the influence at Holiday [sic] Casino, the Fraternal Order of Police says the officers were on a ‘special duty’ shift at the casino and were taking the person into custody. Both officers have been released from the hospital. It’s unclear if the person will be charged.”
The comments on the clip on YouTube are mixed.
“Did you ever notice that when an officer gets hurt or shot at, Mayor Ginther is nowhere to be found? Mayor Coleman supported the police. I miss him. This city was so much better when he was in office,” one person wrote.
“Somethings not right about this story! Two police officers get hurt, and the person that did it “might“ be getting charges? Sounds like the two police officers did something they shouldn’t have,” someone else wrote.
Hollywood Casino hasn’t provided any public comment as of yet.
