Key Takeaways

  • The bomb threat was called in at 5:30 a.m. ET on Thursday at Rivers Casino Philadelphia
  • The threat was ultimately unfounded
  • Two men have been questioned in connection to this threat

On Thursday morning, Rivers Casino Philadelphia in Pennsylvania was evacuated following a bomb threat.

After investigating the building, though, the threat was untrue.

The threat was first reported at 5:30 a.m. ET and the casino continued its regular operations after nothing was found.

Following this event, two men were questioned, but there’s no indication either was charged.

According to local media outlets, someone called in an unspecified threat, and about a dozen officers showed up on the scene, parking at the entrance.

This comes after Rivers Casino Philadelphia had a data breach earlier this year.

Dogs Were Used

While Pennsylvania police didn’t deploy their bomb squad, they did send in bomb-sniffing dogs.

About an hour and a half later, at 7 a.m. ET, police were still preventing employees and prospective players from entering.

“Rivers Casino Philadelphia was briefly evacuated this morning out of an abundance of caution while police checked the building,” according to a statement released by Rivers Casino Philadelphia. “The property was determined to be safe, and team members and guests returned soon thereafter. The casino is open and operating today as usual.”

Rivers Casino Philadelphia is located near the Delaware River. It has 1,521 slots, 72 table games, and 28 poker tables. The sportsbook has 33 self-service kiosks and six windows. This casino covers 22 acres.

Rivers Casino Philadelphia also has a 62-room hotel, 171 apartments, offices, lobby bars, an indoor gym, and more.

Other Evacuations

Just before this bomb threat was reported, there was a threat recorded at Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona.

The Tohono O’odham Police Department searched the premises, but like Rivers Casino Philadelphia, the threat was unfounded.
