Key Takeaways

  • 99% of SJM Resorts’ employees across its three properties will get a raise
  • Workers earning less than MOP16,000 will get an MOP600 raise and a 2.5% raise will be given to those earning more
  • The company is one of several in Macau to announce pay raises for employees in 2025

The Macau gaming operator SJM Resorts, S.A. recently announced pay increases for its employees scheduled to take effect on April 1st, 2025. The adjustment will benefit about 99% of the concessionaire’s Macau and Cotai properties workforce.

Under the new salary structure, employees earning MOP16,000 (US$1,993) or less will have MOP600 (US$74) added to their paychecks. Eligible workers with a salary above MOP16,000 will receive a 2.5% pay increase.

Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM Resorts, underscored the operator’s steady performance in FY24 and employees’ contribution to the stellar performance. “SJM progressed steadily throughout 2024. We deeply appreciate the dedication and hard work of our team members and are pleased to announce a salary increase for all eligible employees,” Ho said.

Another Token of Appreciation

SJM’s salary adjustments come barely a month after it announced special discretionary bonuses for staff equivalent to a month’s salary in December 2024. The incentive was distributed as an appreciation for employees’ efforts toward positive performance throughout the year.

Managing Director Ho stressed that the gaming operator would continue to focus on achieving exceptional growth through continued collaboration with employees. “As we step into the new year, SJM will continue working hand in hand with our team to pursue high-quality development, achieve new milestones across various domains, support Macau’s moderate economic diversification, and create value for the community,” she stated.

A Growing Trend

SJM Resorts joins a list of Macau gaming companies adjusting their wages to match the industry’s shifting needs. Sands China and Galaxy Entertainment implemented similar pay raises for their workers alongside discretionary bonuses.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment also announced salary changes alongside SJM, which will apply to non-management staff in its Macau and Hong Kong properties. The adjustments are similar to those of SJM: employees with a salary of MOP16,000 or less get an MOP600 pay increase, while those earning more than that get a 2.5% raise.

Part of a Bigger Plan

The pay changes by SJM align with its broader initiative for economic diversification and gaining a competitive edge in the Macau gaming sector. As it focuses on the upcoming salary increments, SJM continues to demonstrate commitment to ensuring employees operate in a positive work environment and their contributions to the company’s success are rewarded.
