Key Takeaways

  • Playtika finalized the SuperPlay acquisition on November 20th
  • The developer will onboard new games like Dice Dreams and Domino Dreams with the acquisition
  • Playtika already has a thriving portfolio of Coin Looter and Board games

The mobile games pioneer and interactive entertainment titan Playtika Holdings Corp. finalized its acquisition of SuperPlay, a Tel Aviv-based mobile games specialist. Onboarding the Domino Dreams and Dice Dreams developer significantly strengthens Playtika’s portfolio and development expertise.

SuperPlay’s acquisition strengthens Playtika’s dominance in the global gaming market by adding to its list of big hits in the Board and Coin Lotter game brackets. The transaction was completed on November 20th; the financial details surrounding it were not released.

An Expanding Portfolio

SuperPlay enjoyed massive success on its own before being acquired by Playtika. Its flagship release, Dice Dreams, ranks third-largest in the fast-growing Coin Looter game category. On the other hand, Domino Dreams comes second to none in the popular Board category. The developer has two more games in development.

Playtika also gains SuperPlay’s skilled development team, which is renowned for delivering successful mobile games. Together, the companies stand to elevate their offerings to players worldwide.

“Acquiring SuperPlay is a strategic decision that underscores Playtika’s mobile gaming industry leadership,” Playtika Chief Financial Officer Craig Abrahams stated in a company press release. He added, “SuperPlay diversifies our portfolio with proven titles, strengthens our competitive edge in an ever-evolving market, and drives value for our shareholders.”

Broader Expansion Strategy

Playtika’s purchase of SuperPlay highlights the company’s calculated expansion through acquisitions and mergers. This has been an ongoing trend for many companies, such as Game Lounge, seeking to cement their global footprint.

In 2023, Playtika sealed a $300 million acquisition deal for Innplay Labs. It also purchased Youda Games from Azerion the same year. The game developer also toyed with adding Rovio Entertainment, which is famous for its Angry Birds franchise. However, it fell through, and the studio ultimately ended up with Sega Sammy.

About SuperPlay

SuperPlay opened its doors in 2019 with industry veterans Eyal Netzer, Elad Drory, and Gilad Almog at its helm. The studio quickly drew attention in the mobile gaming niche with innovative marketing and analytic strategies. The company’s headquarters are in Tel Aviv, Israel; it also has offices in Romania and Ukraine.

SuperPlay’s abidance to high production standards has kept it ahead of the competition. The company breaks traditional gaming genre molds, incorporating engaging mechanics and reimagining gambling entertainment, earning it a loyal fanbase globally.
