Key Takeaways

  • Sands China will award a bonus equivalent to one month’s salary
  • Managerial staff will receive performance-based bonuses
  • The bonus will be accompanied by a wage increase of 2.5% to 5%

Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd has announced a new initiative to award employees a discretionary bonus in recognition of their efforts in 2024. The one-month salary-equivalent bonus will be issued on January 27th, 2025. This reward applies to non-management staff that have been in the company for more than a year, while employees in management roles and those with shorter tenures receive different packages.

In a press release, the gaming operator stated it will also bump up salaries effective March 1st, 2025, benefiting 99% of its 27,000 employees. This makes Sands China the first gaming operator in Macau to announce a pay increase alongside year-end bonuses.

Unique Management and Short Tenure Bonuses

Sands China management team members will receive a discretionary bonus determined by their individual performance throughout the year. It will also be based on the casino operator’s Management Incentive Plan and financial results. This incentive applies to staff who have worked for the company for at least a year.

Employees who have been around for less than one year will also receive prorated bonuses, but only if they joined Sands China before October 1st, 2024 and are still employed on the scheduled payout date.

Sands China CEO and Executive Director Grant Chum voiced his appreciation for employees’ contribution to the company’s achievements in 2024, saying, “As we look back at another successful year for Sands China, we can all be proud of what we have achieved together as a team.”

Salary Increment Details

Sands China is the first casino operator to announce salary increases alongside end-of-year bonuses. The announcement also marks the second wage bump since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Eligible full-time Sands China employees earning up to MOP 16,000 monthly will receive a MOP 600 wage increase, reflecting a 3.8% to 5% raise. Salaries above MOP 16,000 will get a 2.5% increase.

Significant Wins in the Bag

Sands China is one of several Macau-based casino operators that awarded their staff year-end bonuses, including SJM, MGM, Wynn, and Galaxy. However, its provision of salary increases makes it stand out from the lot.

Chum also highlighted Sand China’s incredible performance in the broader business landscape: “Some highlights for the year include the successful launch of The Londoner Grand: upgrades to the Venetian Arena; various cultural and tourism projects in the revitalization districts, including the entrepreneurship recruitment program for Rua Das Estalagens; hosting numerous large-scale MICE functions, entertainment performances, international sports events, and cultural and artistic activities.”
